Trauma can occur from experiences that might seem less dramatic to others but feel deeply overwhelming to the person experiencing them. These can include:  

  • Emotional neglect or feeling invisible in relationships. 
  • Constant criticism or lack of validation. 
  • Being excluded or ignored in social situations. 
  • Chronic gaslighting.
  • Indirect exposure to trauma events.


Yes. Single event trauma refers to a traumatic experience caused by a single, intense event that overwhelms an individual's ability to cope. These events often involve life-threatening situations, significant loss, or a sudden and extreme emotional or physical shock. Examples include accidents, natural disasters, assaults, or the sudden death of a loved one. 


Complex trauma can involve multiple major events, often starting early in life, and can affect a person’s sense of self, emotional regulation, and relationships.  These include:

  • Childhood physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. 
  • Domestic violence.
  • Chronic life-endangering neglect or abandonment.
  • Living in a dysfunctional or unstable family environment.
  • Long-term exposure to bullying, discrimination, or racism.
  • Ongoing medical trauma or severe illness.
  • Being in unstable foster care or experiencing multiple unstable caregiver environment during childhood.
  • Image based Sexual Abuse (Revenge Porn)
